Why this consultancy exists.

Unwin Strategic wasn’t set up because AI is interesting. It was set up after years working at the top end of AI and policy, then watching the same tools sit unused in most businesses. The gap became impossible to ignore.

Kyle Unwin, founder

Where it came from.

Before Unwin Strategic, Kyle spent a decade where AI, communications and strategy meet: in government policy, Westminster, a fast-growing health business and a Stockport café.

He sat in rooms where national governments were being advised on how AI could reshape public services. He built AI systems that let small teams work like large ones. And he kept seeing the same thing: tools transforming institutions at the top were untouched a few rungs below.

Not because those businesses were behind, or their owners lacked ambition. Because nobody had sat down with them, understood the operation and shown them where to start. That’s the gap we close.

The work

From global policy to a café in Stockport.

Whole-business AI · 2026

Convene, an independent café and events space in Stockport

The most complete proof of what we do. Convene is a seasonal, ingredient-led café, and AI runs through every part of it, not just the back office.

Accounts are automated, with an accountant signing off. Marketing is planned and produced with AI. Stock and staffing follow demand forecasts. Hiring, menus, legal paperwork and research into new sites all run through AI rather than costly outside support, and the team runs the day from a shared app.

The result is a small team with the back office of a far larger one.

AI lead, policy and partnerships · 2020 to 2025

Tony Blair Institute for Global Change

One of the world’s most influential policy institutes, advising governments across Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Kyle became the division’s AI lead, building AI into reporting, data analysis, research and creative production.

The work ran both ways: inside the organisation, AI systems that did the work of whole teams; outside it, shaping AI policy for national governments and showing heads of state what the recommendations would look like in practice.

It’s the same work we do now. The difference is one of scale, not approach.

Content operation · 2025 to 2026

A health founder with a high public profile

A founder running several health businesses, with a fast-growing audience and a team producing content across channels. The problem wasn’t output. It was consistency, and the founder being needed at every step.

We built an AI content operation from the ground up: forecasting that spotted topics early, and a sign-off model trained on her standards for writing, editing and design, so the team could hit her bar without her.

Digital and communications · 2014 to 2018

A senior Member of Parliament

This isn’t an AI story. It’s where the conviction behind the consultancy began.

Running digital and communications for a senior MP across two general elections, Kyle saw up close how established organisations really run: research done by hand, decisions made on instinct, everything made and approved slowly.

Most businesses still run on processes that made sense fifteen years ago. The gap between what they do and what’s now possible has never been wider.

One thread through all of it.

A policy institute, a political office, a health brand and a neighbourhood café. Different worlds, same pattern.

Each had a gap between what it could do and what it was doing. People spent time on work that didn’t need them, and decisions were made with less information than was available. In every case AI closed the gap, not by replacing what made the organisation good, but by removing what slowed it down.

That’s what we bring to every business we work with.

Bring ten goals. We’ll bring the questions.

The first conversation is free and commits you to nothing. In person or on a call. If AI isn’t the answer for your business, we’ll tell you.
